Generally speaking, these pictures portray human beings in an existentialist context. Graham Green talks about how life is ridiculous and that that is precisely why there is reason for hope. My scenarios are both melancholy and humorous.
I am exulted and terrified by how rapidly my children are mastering this world. A common theme of mine is an attempt to capture the moment before innocence and imagination are replaced by the cold “facts” of life. Being able to hold on to that inherent playfulness and creativity is part of what makes life possible in the first place. My work tries gingerly to inflate small fantasies and keep them adrift for a while amid a current of objectivity.
