Statement

My work focuses on the interaction among life forms and their environments. Specifically, I am interested in the narrative that results from these relationships. Working with oil on panel, I portray this dynamic by producing images that do not blatantly illustrate such circumstances. Instead, I prefer to address these concepts via obscured figures that often blend with their environments on a certain level, making it necessary to "parse" the situation. Through monochromatic colors, obscured and morphed forms, I add a level of ambiguity that requires the viewer to focus on the possibilities of the narrative evoked. Finally, the painted surface is slick, resembling plastic, in order to mimic a certain "appropriate" level of artificiality.
