My sculptures are intensely crafted objects combining traditional sculptural methodology with futuristic/contemporary subject matter. Often they are conundrums of too much information that coalesce in their totality to be oddly discrete and minimal. They simultaneously seek to combine disparate and often contradictory themes: minimal/baroque, old/new, comic/tragic, high/low, beauty/brutality, figuration/abstraction. It is the dialectical nature of these relationships that animates the work and counteracts their stillness and silence. Any sense of irony that may be present is diffused through the attention and commitment to craft. They are absurdly crafted, hyper-real objects that offer moments of unexpected beauty resulting from violent collisions, and attempted graftings. There is a sense of formal play and rigor as well. Sculptures pick up and hold their own bases, bases covered in fur become sculptures in their own right. There are feelings of hope about the unexpected sweetness and beauty that can result from these cultural/medical experiments. It is often counterbalanced with a mordant dark humor that informs their status as caveats.
