ABOUT MY WORK
As an artist, I use three mediums; Painting, Drawing and Photography. Whichever corresponds to what I want to do. There can be a dialogue between the works, no matter the medium, when they are installed together. Still, I want each work to exist independently. The idea that each painting is "one" is very important to me. This doesn't mean that one work cannot inspire a second one. Sometimes a drawing later becomes a painting, or a photo a drawing ?or the other way around. (But never in a systematical way.) I enjoy using different media. There are two ways in which the works are connected. One is more apparent; subjects, words, signs, ideas, thoughts; things that stays with me ("gets stuck in my mind") comes out in my work. The other is more underneath the surface, as some kind of undercurrent presence, feeling. Physically more felt in the paintings, or in the photography. The drawing have the immediacy of thoughts and visual impressions. Words are also important; either in the works or in the titles. I'm concerned with how people feel inside. Things such as the "borders between inside and outside", the "strangeness of doubles", "the two sides of it", are some examples of "subjects" that pop up in my work. My work is personal. I found that staying close to myself doesn't necessarily mean being so focused on myself that I cannot communicate. On the contrary, I realize that other people can though this, identify with the works in a very personal way. Living today, we are exposed to a multiplicity of signs and images, banal things and more important issues. We often dissociate them from our real emotions. My work is about life. Mia Enell NYC, 2000
