As a photo-based artist, I see myself as the link between two realities – the one outside
of the camera and the one that begins once the photograph has been taken. Rather than documenting or ‘capturing the moment,’ I want to show what is not immediately visible.
Inspiration for my work comes from both my fascination with the informational processes of the mind and my interest in popular theories of physics. For example, the “string theory” describes the existence of multiple dimensions and parallel universes that might be just outside of our perception. I am equally interested in memory—how it is produced, shaped, and shifted by experiences. Although these ideas may not be inherently obvious in my images, they do have a significant impact on my artistic process.
While all of my images are digitally processed, I shoot most of my series on medium format film. This combination of analogue film and digital scanning and image editing provides me with the level of detail my process requires and the control I need to transform my ideas.
