Artist's Statement
My earliest memories are of my family's home in Japan; Japanese brush paintings on the walls, Kokeshi dolls as toys and a kimono for my bathrobe.

This early immersion in Japanese art and objects has influenced my aesthetic sensibility.  Exposure to Japanese culture which places an emphasis on respect for the natural environment has had a profound influence on my art.

My non-representational work expresses the beauty and flow I find in nature.  Whether I am pouring paint on canvas, making gestures with a paint brush or using bark sloughed from trees as canvas, my work celebrates the energy, serendipity, repetition and wonder of the natural environment through color, shape, contrast form and use of overlooked materials.
