Like a composer of music or a poet, I compose with colors, gestures and textures. My penchant for creating textured surfaces first and then layering veils of transparent and translucent colors is rooted in years of printmaking experience. Also, I have maintained the need to be surprised by what the transformative process reveals, whatever the medium. Each one of my works is a journey. It begins in unlikely places and takes unexpected directions in a process that is always leading toward an unforeseen conclusion. As long as a painting keeps talking to me, I talk back and the conversation is all about formal relationships. It evolves; I evolve. In art, as in life.
