My paintings explore the balance between the physical elements and transcendent ideals.

One of the physical aspects explored is the structure of the grid. The inherent limitations became the anchor and framework for the further development of the paintings. Through formulaic approach, breakdown and build up of elements is achieved with greater freedom. New patterns emerge from the different variations interacting as these interferences are viewed as a whole.

A non physical aspect of this work comes from the illusion of depth inherent in painting itself. There is a sense of flatness that interests me, traditional to abstract painting, that adopts an Eastern sensibility of the subject, rejecting Western sense of perspective. This perspective opens possibilities, finding the infinite within the contained finite. Through universal visual language, I wish to create a dialog about duality, purity, mortality and time. I am interested in bringing these elements together in order to create a transformed, balanced whole.
