I make statements of sensuality, mystical power of creativity, cultural oppression, and various psychological aspects as a female immigrant on my work. Images of underwear are metaphorical representation implying traditionally inherited belief in Korea that underwear of a pregnant woman could transfer the power of fertility to a barren. On the other hand, it is a sensuous symbol of sexual intercourse. Culturally hidden metaphor is permeated into iridescent colors and fabric patterns by meaning of feminine sensibility, that differs from color fields in historic modernism. Multiple reactions and delicate mixtures of colors by layers of brush works create veiled sensuality and various positions of women. Pressed images are direct and impersonal, yet intimate gestures through the interactions between myself and materials. I introduce viewers to the mixture of complex feelings and concepts of the work beyond the tangibility and the limited. Hee Sook Kim
