I am a working writer and performance artist but have always turned to visual art to document things better left unsaid, or things I am not yet equipped to say. Both my written and visual explorations focus on hyphens, exile, displacement and other "in between" states.
I employ mixed media, collage and assemblage as a postmodernist, but also as a Haitian-American--for what is Haitian-Kreyol, Haitian-Vodou and Haitian (and American) culture but a gathering and re-working of materials?
I cradle the cherished and incorporate the unexpected to sculpt something nostalgic but new, something mutt, something urban, something ours, something mine.
